The Chairman Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike
Okiro, has disclosed that the names of 573,211 applicants
have been removed from the list of those to be considered
for screening when the recruitment exercise starts next
week in 36 states and the Federal Capital territory (FCT).
Also, 338,227 applicants are to begin screening next week,
leading to the grand finale in Abuja in about six weeks
time, where 500 Cadet ASPs, 500 Cadet Inspectors, 1,500
Specialist Officers and 7,500 Constables, (as delineated
by the PSC) would be recruited.
Okiro stated this yesterday in Abuja while briefing the
press on the activities for the next phase of physical
screening of candidates for the recruitment of 10,000
policemen by the commission.
He said the portal opened for the exercise received a total
of 911,438 applications and shortlisted 338,227
applicants electronically who met the criteria required
for the next round.
The last recruitment into the Nigeria Police was done in
2011.It was in view of this that the President gave the
directive that 10,000 personnel be recruited into the
force.
Out of the total number that applied, those invited for
the next phase of screening across the states of the
federation comprise of 44,661 for Cadet ASP, 87,736 for
Cadet Inspectors and 205,830 for Constables.
Okiro said most of the candidates failed the screening
process for various reasons ranging from mismatch of
certificate for declared vacancies, wrong choice of cadre,
year of birth earlier than 1988 for ASPs/Inspectors, 1991
for constables and 1984 for specialists, all educational
certificates other than FSLC obtained earlier than 2007,
multiple applications among others.
The screening would commence on 6th June 2016 across
the federation. This would be followed by another one at
the 12 zonal commands before the final one in Abuja
after which successful applicants would be selected for
training.
